Manaaki Whenua appoints new chief executive

James Stevenson-Wallace has been appointed chief executive of Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research.

His previous positions have included General Manager, Energy and Resources, at the Ministry of Business, Innovation  and Employment, Director of Fisheries Management at the Ministry for Primary Industries, and Economist at the NZ Institute of Economic Research.

He has worked closely with several of the Crown Research Institutes and led various Government research programmes.

James holds a Master of Public Policy from Victoria University, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics also from Victoria, and a Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University.

He will join Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research on 25 October 2022.

Dr Fiona Carswell will continue to lead Manaaki Whenua as Acting Chief Executive Officer until then.
