Presentation by MPI’s
Warwick Foran
to discuss developments surrounding both
The establishment of Te Uru Rakau (NZ’s new Forest Agency) and planning for the One Billion Trees
Warwick will provide answers to those questions at the fore-front of our minds:
Where is the land (for One Billion Trees) and how will it be acquired?
Have we got the seed, the nursery skills – and the manpower for planting & releasing?
Why Rotorua for Te Uru Rakau?
What will be the link between Te Uru Rakau and the Forest Advisory Group?
Warwick Foran is General Manager of Crown Forestry, a unit within the newly formed (interim) Branch of the Ministry for Primary Industries, Te Uru Rakau. Warwick is a career forester with more than forty years experience. He has worked in the NZ Forest Service, the Ministry of Forestry, and the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry.
Crown Forestry administers the Crown’s interest in forestry leases on Maori land, residual state forests and other forestry assets. Since December 2017, has been mandated to enter into new commercial forestry ventures on private land as part of the Government’s One Billion Trees Programme.
The One Billion Trees is a $100 million-plus annual turnover commercial forestry business harvesting and selling more than 0.8M cubic metres of logs annually, and with forests and land assets from Northland to South Westland.
